now, one thing about me is that i am a sucker for a cheesy rom-com. bridget jones, notting hill, love actually, even the really weird hallmark ones, i will devour the lot, and so i was so happy to find this book! usually i go for dark, depressing, and full of death.
this book was such a fun read! it was my first of this author's and it had me giggling, kicking my heels, and wanting more. it included some typical rom-com moments such as being accidentally stood up, your best friend trying to set you up with the very same guy you're trying to meet but still haven't met yet, and the constant crossing-paths-without-realising, but it was so sweet.
i wouldn't go so far as to say this novel is groundbreakingly romantic but it's happy, and we all need some more of that in our lives. both main characters are strong leads and the differing pov's add a special something to the book. the enriching female friendships are a memorable moment for me, as is the flourishing bromances between our male lead and a supporting character - this is the first book in a while that has shown a good, wholesome man! (probably something to do with my love of dark whodunnits.)
the communication style that the author chose for the character throughout the plot is thoroughly enjoyable and very unique. while the premise of the book is simple, the execution is lovely and heartwarming.
it's a novel i will reach for in the future for a pick-me-up!
